Contemporary Artist & Founder of SPACE Art Collective
SARA SAVANNAH JONES
FROM THE ARTIST
Sara Savannah Jones is a Lakeland-based visual artist and the director of the SPACE Art Collective. Her work is painted primarily in acrylics, layering color rather than blending it to create hyper-realistic images that feel like collages, reminiscent of that roll of disposable camera photos you finally developed three years later.
She uses recycled canvas and found surfaces whose prior wear becomes part of the narrative. Referencing consumerism, the saved photos on her phone, and graphic design, Jones builds compositions that balance precision with playful unruliness, often threading humor or irony through themes of nostalgia, late-stage capitalism, and longing.
Guided by rigorous color theory study and an interest in helping people feel comfortable having conversations through art, her paintings invite viewers into a dialogue where materials, histories, and feelings serve as vessels for discourse.
FROM NOTTA GALLERY
Sara Savannah Jones is an artist that speaks her mind - both through rigorous technique and emotional expression. The meticulous and surreal construction of her artwork pulls at your intrigue, then leaves you in a state of introspection. If you find yourself drawn into Jones' paintings with a feverish curiosity - prepare yourself to be met with a generous dose of raw authenticity.
Something that we admire deeply about Jones is her dedication to uplifting voices within our community of artists in Lakeland. Through her leadership and advocacy as the founder of SPACE Art Collective (Sanctuary for Polk's Arts, Culture, and Education), Jones seeks to preserve the heritage of and provide opportunities for emerging artists.
She has also produced several community showcases - including BREAKING IN! and Punks for Planned Parenthood - and created album covers for local musicians.
