That Was Then

My Dad took this canvas out of the dumpster for me it had a painting of a horse's rear end on it. He said he thought of me when he saw it in the trash. I wrote an apology note directly onto the surface to say sorry to the artist who had painted on it before me. Then I painted over it. Each item on the canvas was something that friends or acquaintances had given to me or left at my house after a party. I couldn't bear to let go of or disrespect all the memories that lived inside of these things. Maybe I should stop giving so much power to inanimate objects.
