Rainbow Swamp

Inspired by Boston queer activists who created the "Lavender Rhino" in the 70s this painting presents a Southern twist. Queers who live in the swamps of the south like alligators are often labeled as predators or dangers to society who are actually just trying to survive the swamp as everyone else does. Meanwhile the Rainbow Swamp is a naturally occurring phenomenon as leaves decay to create a prismatic reflection amongst the waters. I feel both encompass the feeling that is to be a queer person in the south.
