Photography: Learning to See
A Three-Part Photography Workshop with Sarah Brewington Baarns
A photograph begins long before the shutter is pressed. Every great image starts with the same foundation: not simply a camera, but a new way of seeing.
Hosted at Notta Gallery, this intimate three-part workshop introduces the foundational language of digital photography through six essential concepts, paired across three standalone sessions. Attend the full series to build a comprehensive foundation or join an individual session focused on the topic that interests you most.
Session 1: Light & Composition
Learn to recognize and work with light while discovering how thoughtful composition can transform an ordinary photograph into a compelling image.
Session 2: Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO
Take control of your camera's essential settings and gain a clear understanding of how exposure shapes every photograph you create.
Session 3: Communication & Concept
Move beyond technique into intention, exploring what your photographs are saying and how to communicate with greater clarity, purpose, and impact.
Each session combines hands-on camera work with curated discussions of influential contemporary photographers, expanding not only your technical skills but the way you think about image-making.
While the course is designed primarily for DSLR, mirrorless, and manual-mode point-and-shoot cameras, photographers of all experience levels are welcome. Whether you're learning to shoot in manual mode or simply hoping to make more intentional photographs with your phone, you'll find practical insights and creative inspiration throughout the series.
