Beach Day Memory | 35.75 X 48 X 2

A misty memory once captured in a photograph is transformed onto canvas in a dreamy nostalgic rendering. The image depicts my mother as a young child alongside her mother my grandmother. In this ongoing body of work I recreate and explore family photographs through layers of oil paint opening fragments of personal history to new interpretations. In this version the underlying grid remains visible inspired by the work of painter Chuck Close. Rather than concealing the process I allow it to become part of the finished piece revealing the construction of the image and leaving a trace of my own hand within the memory.
