Mixed-Media Painter, Photographer & Creative Director
SHERRY ROSS
FROM THE ARTIST
Sherry Ross is the rarest of the rare - a true Florida native. Born and raised in Lakeland, her ties to the community run deep, including over 30 years of teaching art in Polk County.
A painter and photographer, Ross returns to recurring themes in both bodies of work. Her art explores absurdity and the elevation of the mundane in the Dadaist tradition, blending modern ideas with anachronistic imagery to create fresh inferences and layered meanings. Her work is also deeply informed by her fascination with art history and traditional iconography.
An award-winning artist and arts advocate, Ross makes her home in Bartow with her family, a few reasonably friendly cats, and a small herd of chickens.
FROM NOTTA GALLERY
Sherry Ross might be one of the most compassionate and quick-witted artists that we've ever met. Listening to Ross describe the humorous scenes that she captures in her photographs is akin to witnessing the experience for yourself. Upon viewing her works at Notta Gallery, you'll be sure to find yourself laughing at life in the same ways that Ross does. However - don't be fooled by this absurdity. The fine-art photography of Ross is richly informed by her extensive knowledge of history and symbolism.
Ross currently serves as Creative Director of the Depot Arts District, and loves her community with an unparalleled dedication. This value is something that we love about Ross, as well as her contributions to the Lakeland Arts Association. As their partner, Notta Gallery seeks to amplify the resources provided by this organization.
