JOHN JACOPELLE
FROM THE ARTIST
John Jacopelle is a distinguished and modernistic artist, who has defined his many works as an analytical analysis, where one would have to account for the process and inspiration.
"Devoid of preconceived ideas and direction, my work takes on a stream-of-consciousness approach, where the “act of doing” or process is equally important to the finished piece. Rendered in ambiguity yet painted with clear definitiveness, organic shapes, rhythmic lines, and graphic marks develop as I work upon a painting, leaving each piece open to the viewers’ own interpretation.
In each case, the process helps me discover how my mind hears and sees a reality. I find beauty in the repetitions of painterly gesture, that become scribbles, a cursive I decode. I grapple with this sense of visual language and the history from which it came. I feel the sensation of colors that scream and subjects of thoughts seeking to survive. The work is about doing. The subjects develop as I work. I find comfort in solving the mystery. The work quietly talks and messages are found. Through the radiation of color, their organic shapes emit energy that motivates me to never stop."
